Very nice post. The holidays do make you feel like a lonely outcast when you are JW. I'm glad you escaped the bondage.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and everyone on this board. I'm also thankful that I'm out of that awful religion particularly today. I remember going out in service bothering people on Thanksgiving day and being miserable myself.
I'm thankful for lots of things. I'm that I've been able to keep a job through these tough economic times. I'm thankful for my wife, friends, family, my health. I'm thankful for the ocean the desert and the mountains. Gotta love this planet. I'm thankful for this board and everyone that posts here. I'm thankful that I go to a church that welcomes everyone and allow people to think for themselves and is concerned about the poor and the homeless in our area. And I'm thankful for this day that give us a chance to reflect on what we have to be thankful for in our lives. Last Sunday I went for Thankgiving dinner at my sister so this is the second one for me. Next year I may get a early start on it by celebrating Canadian Thanksgiving.
Today my neighbors who are Muslims came over to ask how to cook a turkey. I think it is a wonderful holiday that everyone can enjoy. Except dubs although I think a lot of them are closet participants.

North Korea just attacked South Korea, wonder where this will head........
by miseryloveselders inhttp://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/40329269/ns/world_news-asiapacific/.
seoul north korea bombarded a south korean island with dozens of artillery shells tuesday in one of the fiercest attacks on its neighbor since the korean war ended in 1953.. .
there's more to the story, but copying and pasting was somewhat awkward.

by highdose ina few days ago my door bell rang.
when i answered it there were two sruffy looking men there both of them in their 60's/70's i would say.. one of them with a huge belly said to me " hello, we are going around the community today gadging peoples views from all nationalites, because we feel thats very important to do in this area as we have cypriot, russian and british like yourself...".
i interupted there and said " sorry, who are you?".

It always amazes me how little they know about the religion they are trying to get you to join.

Went to a strange funeral today
by startingover inwent to a funeral today for a lady that has not been associated with the jw's for many years, and her husband has probably just been on the fringe of association, their children have been out for a long time.
so they had the funeral at a funeral home, the place was full of family, jw's and other friends.
in the newspaper obituary they referred to it as a celebration of life.

Something very liberal for JWs going on there. Whatever it is I hope it is contagious.

Help me become a real CRAZY FUNDIE ATHEIST parent!
by bohm inhello friends!.
once in a while you hear about fundie atheists, and i have desided to become one.
but i need a bit of advice.. you see, apparently the fundie atheists are as messed up as their worst religious "fundie" counterparts, so i got some expectations to live up to.. i have desided to focus on how i should raise my child, since the religious dickery i hate the most has to do with how children are raised.

I think Sussies mother didn't take the time to fully explain the situation to her. She should have pointed out that some day in the not too distant future mommy would be going the way of grandma and not long after that Sussie's pointless existance would come to end. And if Sussie had children they would all suffer the same fate. Then Sussie's mother should have made sure Sussie understood that nothing happens to anyone after we die there just dead and that no matter what anyone else says she knows this to be the absolute truth.
If your going to pop the kids bubble you want to make sure you do a good job of it.

There are a lot of reasons they don't allow it. One would be that it is fun and the Watchtower doesn't promote having fun. Another would be the Watchtower likes Witnesses to believe that they are separate and better than everyone else. Also witnesses usually get the day off and people are at home. What better way to irritate your neighbors and ruin what could be a nice day with friends and family for your followers.

As a JW, what did you do on Christmas Day?
by Magwitch ingrowing up a jw, we always had family from out of town visit or we would go visit family.
it was fun to get together with my other jw cousins over christmas.
(however, it was hell going back to school in january as the only girl without a new sweater).. as a married jw though it was a different story.

Go skiing with 3000 other JWs in Big Bear, Ca.
I forgot about that Designs. I remember a lot of JWs did that on Christmas Day. I think my wife and I may have done it once. That is probably one of the only benefits anyone ever got out of being a JW.

My husband did not let me visit my JW parents or other JW relatives over Christmas because he felt that was all part of celebrating the holidays (being with family).
That statement kind of bothered me. Even as a dub I wouldn't have wanted to control my wife to that extent. I could see a huband saying I don't want you to but saying I won't let you is just way too much over the top. Your husband must have been a real fun guy to live with. Maybe I never really understood the JW headship thing.
Sorry I got sidetracked from the question. Back to the point. I remember one time in my more zealous days as a JW I even went so far as going to work on Christmas Day even though it wasn't required of me because I was trying my best to be a good Jdubby an ignore Christmas as much as possible. However most of the of the time I did more normal things like go to a family members house for dinner. Like Blondie I also like watching holiday movies and my favorite back then and to this day is A Christmas Carol. In my area JWs that surfed would go to the beach because you could have the waves pretty much to yourself. Almost everyone else was at home opening presents with their families. I never went door to door on Christmas but I do remember going door to door on Thanksgiving Day. Even now I feel embarassed that I ever did anything that stupid.

I just can't do anymore right now....
by GrandmaJones ini am constantly reading, studying, looking up more stuff on the internet, perusing old threads, keeping up with "new light" on jwn.
i am in the middle of "in search of christian freedom" (having just finished steve's cultmind control book) and i am finding it so argumentive doctrinally that my head is spinning.
i found myself this evening with my laptop next to my desktop (all the better to reference back and forth, m'dear) the wt library cd-rom open to "the modern history of jehovah's witnesses" in twenty four parts, with a plethera of "rainbow" books open for easy reference while i was listening to an old fred franz discourse at dodgers stadium!!!!!!!!!!!!.

It's like staring at a corpse.....
I like that analogy.
I did the same thing when I left. I would sometimes get up in the night and read books written by exjws or book exposing the the Watchtower. I think it is all part of the process of leaving the cult. I found it facinating learning just how wrong they were on just about every subject.
